Schools cited for PE, restraint training lapses

School Committee · Meeting of April 15, 2026

RAYNHAM — Bridgewater-Raynham schools cited by the state on restraint and PE training as a parent describes a seclusion incident. The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education rated the district "partially implemented" on three of 29 monitoring standards: physical education, bullying-intervention training and physical-restraint training, with Superintendent Powers saying a corrective action plan is due to the state by early May. The School Committee voted unanimously to appoint Angela Watson, the high school's longtime principal, as assistant superintendent effective July 1.

Bridgewater parent Lauren Boyden told the committee her son was secluded in a "seven-by-seven room" more than 100 times across two school years, once for two hours, calling it "child abuse." Bridgewater Town Manager Casanova-Davis's proposed fiscal 2027 budget falls $2.7 million short of what the district requested, with new revenue of just $500,000 against a $1 million rise in employee benefit costs.
