RAYNHAM — Bridgewater-Raynham schools cut their fiscal 2027 budget to $100,585,484 and accepted a $625,564 gift from Raynham to hire teachers and shrink overcrowded classrooms. The School Committee voted 8-0 on each measure after Bridgewater and Raynham approved smaller tax increases, 3.616 percent and 2.199 percent respectively, than the district's original budget assumed. Members also added $800,000 from reserves, for $2.8 million total, to cushion the cuts.
Bridgewater resident Sean George told the committee his town has long paid more per pupil than Raynham, calling renewed "gifting" troubling: "To say I'm disappointed that we are seeing gifting again is an understatement." Committee member Mr. DuPont separately blasted athletic fees as "unconscionable," as members debated cutting the per-sport fee from $600 to $325, a decision continued to June.
